Sanwo-Olu gifts Lasu Best Graduating Student for the 2023/2024 Academic Session N10m

A Biochemistry graduate Isioma Sybil Nwosu, has emerged as the star of Lagos State University’s 2023/2024 academic session, achieving the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.93.The announcement was made on earlier today during LASU’s 28th Convocation Ceremony held at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Ojo Campus. A total of 11,917 students graduated across diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels.
The convocation also celebrated other notable figures, with honorary doctorate degrees conferred on the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (retd.), and former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Otunba Olufemi Pedro. Marwa, a former military administrator of Lagos State, received a Doctor of Humane Letters, while Pedro was honoured with a Doctor of Business.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Sanwo-Olu stressed the critical role of education in societal development. He called on Nigerian leaders to ensure the country’s educational system remains dynamic and effective in solving real-life challenges. “Education is the backbone of our society. We must foster a culture that values knowledge and innovation just as much as success in entertainment, fashion, or sports,” he said
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the critical role of education in societal progress and stressed the need to value academic excellence on par with achievements in other fields. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting students in state-owned tertiary institutions through investments and infrastructure development, highlighting education as a key priority within the THEMES+ agenda and mentioning initiatives like the Job Initiative Lagos aimed at enhancing student employability.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor praised the state government’s continuous support and outlined key milestones achieved under her leadership. The Chancellor, Prof. Gbolahan Elias (SAN), urged graduates to be exemplary ambassadors of the university.
