Police Suspend Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit

The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide following a subsisting court order restraining the action.  B In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, and the police recalled that on December 15, 2025, the Force announced the resumption of enforcement of the policy, scheduled to take effect from January 2, 2026, as part of measures to enhance public safety and internal security.

However, the statement explained that the Nigeria Police Force was subsequently served with an interim court order in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, issued on December 17, 2025, restraining the Force from proceeding with the enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit or the vacation of the order.

It added that in compliance with constitutional provisions and respect for judicial authority, the Force has entered appearance in the matter, raised preliminary objections, and applied for the vacation of the interim order. The case has been adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings. Accordingly, the police said enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy has been placed on hold nationwide pending the court’s decision.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the rule of law while carrying out its mandate of protecting lives and property, noting that lawful and intelligence-driven strategies would continue to be deployed to address security challenges. The public was assured that further updates and clear guidance would be communicated after the court’s determination, in the interest of public order and national security.
