Oyo Rolls Out Week-Long 50th Anniversary Celebration Of Creation

The Oyo State Government has rolled out a week-long program of events to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the state’s creation.

The line up of activities include religious services, cultural exhibitions, Award and dinner night; public lecture titled: "Consolidating the legacy, navigating the present and reimagining the future".

Chairman of the committee of the 50th Anniversary, former member of the House of Representatives, Saheed Akinade-Fijabi, reeled out the activities at the Secretariat, Ibadan.

Akinade-Fijabi said the golden jubilee programme was structured to combine reflection, thanksgiving, intellectual engagement and cultural celebration, in line with the future-driven vision of Governor Seyi Makinde.

Other activities include Health Outreach in the 33 LGAs, Film Show in the 6 geo-political zones, Carnival, Symposium and Lectures, Religious services, Sports, and empowerment program for women.

Oyo State was created on the 3rd of February, 1976, from the former Western Region, with Ibadan as the capital.
