Court Adjourns Trial Of Chioma Okoli on Alleged Syndicate Crime to Jan 22

The Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja, has adjourned the trial of Chioma Okolia on allegation of syndicate crime, instituted by the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to January 22, 2026.

Okoli is prosecuted by the IGP on behalf of Erisco Foods Limited, over a Facebook post she made about a tomato paste produced by the company. In the post, Okoli had stated that the product she purchased contained too much sugar.

Following the review, Erisco Foods petitioned the police, alleging that Okoli was part of a criminal syndicate bent on destroying the company’s business.

The prosecution witness, Nnamdi Nwokolo, who had earlier adopted his statement on oath, was cross-examined by defence counsel, Inibehe Effiong.

Under cross-examination, Nwokolo admitted that Okoli did not initially state in her Facebook post that Erisco tomato paste was killing people, but made the statement in response to a comment by another Facebook user.

He also admitted that Erisco Foods did not directly contact Okoli to complain about the post, but instead tagged her Facebook handle in a post warning her to take it down.

At the conclusion of the cross-examination, the court adjourned the case to January 22, 2026, for the prosecution to call its second witness.
