Oyo Govt, NHRC Harp on Respect for Human Rights
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has presented a communiqué on the outcome of its 16 days of activism to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girl-child to the Oyo state government in commemoration of the 2020 International Human Rights Day.
While receiving the communiqué of the National Human Rights Commission's 16 days of activism, Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, represented by his chief of staff, Oyebisi Ilaka, assured the Commission that the content of the communiqué will be considered and implemented.
The Governor promised that the state government will pay special attention to factors affecting human rights in the pacesetter state as well as gender-based violence.
While presenting the communiqué to the state government, the Acting coordinator National Human Rights Commission in the state, Akintayo Olamide, explained that the communiqué contained recommendations of various rights activists on effective methods to be adopted by the government to eliminate violence against persons.
She added that the implementation of all the recommendations in the communiqué will reduce violence against women and girl child in Oyo state.
Human Rights Day is an annual event across the world scheduled for every 10th of December. The theme for this year event is 'Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girl Child'.
