Oyo CP, Others Visit Igangan, Sue for Peace
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, Ngozi Onadeko and the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security, Fatai Owoseni on Sunday visited Igangan following the mayhem that rocked the town last Friday.
The Palace of Seriki Fulani, Alhaji Saliu Abadulkadir and other houses in the town including 11 expensive cars were razed by angry youths while the Seriki and his family had fled to Ogun state.
On arrival at Igangan, the team inspected the scene the mayhem and moved around the town.
A peace meeting was later held at Igangan town hall where traditional rulers in Igangan, other stakeholders and representatives of Fulani settlers in the area were in attendance.
Some of the community leaders who spoke during the meeting lamented the havoc that Fulani herdsmen had wrecked on the axis adding that so many innocent lives have been lost while farmlands with crops were not spared by the deadly herdsmen.
Also, they accused Seriki Fulani in Oyo state, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadri of supporting the atrocities being perpetrated by the herdsmen in the axis adding that series of intelligence reports had been provided to security agencies but with little or no response.
They maintained that the situation has reached its peak as residents could no longer withstand the atrocities of the herdsmen.
Responding, the Commissioner of police in the state, Ngozi Onadeko decried the situation saying his men and other security agencies applied minimum force during the mayhem in order not to allow the situation get out of hand.
He called on both parties to sheath their swords and give peace a chance adding that police has commenced an investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the crisis.
She stressed the need for the people to live in peace and refrain from promoting ethnic or religious crisis in the area and Oyo state at large.
Also, the Special Adviser to Governor Makinde on security, Fatai Owoseni urged the people to embrace peace for the socio-economic development of the state.
In another development, the team also visited Tede and Ago Are also in Oke Ogun axis of the state following a boundary dispute between the two communities.
The Commissioner of Police appealed to community leaders and other residents of the two communities to embrace peace and allow amicable resolution of the crisis.
She promised to organize a stakeholders' meeting in Ibadan between the two communities for peace and unity.
