Oyetola Inaugurates Shippers’ Council Board, Seeks to Reposition Blue Economy
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has formally inaugurated the Governing Board of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, describing the move as a critical step towards strengthening governance and accountability in Nigeria’s maritime sector.
The inauguration, marks a significant milestone in the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the Marine and Blue Economy as a key driver of national economic growth, he said.
Minister Oyetola said the constitution of the board, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda, reflected government’s commitment to good governance, institutional effectiveness, and economic transformation through the maritime industry.
The Minister charged members of the newly inaugurated board to provide strong strategic direction, sound policy guidance, and vigilant oversight in line with existing laws and government policies.
Chairman, Governing Board, Dr Ibrahim Shema, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in them. He assured that the board would carry out its responsibilities with dedication, professionalism, and integrity.
He also pledged the board’s commitment to effective oversight, improved regulatory efficiency, enhanced port performance, better trade facilitation, and the advancement of Nigeria’s broader economic agenda.
The inauguration of the board is expected to further strengthen the regulatory framework of Nigeria’s ports and support ongoing reforms toward boosting efficiency and attracting investment in the maritime sector.
