Militants attack police patrol team
The Bayelsa state police command have confirmed the attack on a police patrol team by suspected militants at Kolo 2 community in Ogbia local government area of the state, which led to the killing of a police sergeant and also left a corporal and civilian wounded.
In a statement released by the police public relations officer Asinim Butswat and made available to Galaxy news, Butswat stated that the police patrol team intercepted a vehicle conveying suspected militants, while the militants resisted arrest after being handcuffed before killing the policeman.
The police spokesperson blamed the community youths who assisted the suspected militants for the death of the policeman after they were overpowered by the militants.
Meanwhile, the wounded police officer and civilian are receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) in Yenagoa, while efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In the same vein, the Bayelsa police commissioner Amba Asuquo has called on members of the public to always assist the police in fighting crime rather than assisting criminals.
It will be recalled that the state police commissioner while parading suspects in Yenagoa promised to clamp down on suspected militants before the recent attack.
