Makinde Promises Continuous Support for Armed Forces
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has declared the support of his administration for the armed forces in Nigeria.
Speaking in Ibadan during the armed forces Remembrance Day celebration held at the Memorial Arcade, Agodi, Makinde explained that the remembrance ceremony for the nation's fallen heroes and war veterans was an opportunity to reassure the people of government's unflinching determination to continue to guarantee peace and safety across the nation.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that Makinde expressed hope that with commitment and sacrifice, Nigeria would rise above its many challenges and become a greater nation.
In his remark, the chairman of Nigeria Legion, Oyo state command, Deacon Michael Fajimi appeal to the government to do more in terms of welfare for families and welfare of ex-soldiers who had rendered meritorious service to fatherland.
Highpoints of the event were laying of wreath at the cenotaph of the government house, observance of minute of silence, firing of rounds volley, and a symbolic release of white pigeon to herald peace by Governor Makinde.
Security heads in Oyo state, top government functionaries and representatives of widows and children of ex-servicemen amongst others graced the ceremony
