Local Authority Disrupts Mass Burial Of Victims Killed By Herdsmen In Benue
Local Authority of Kwande Council Secretariat, Benue State, is int eh theatre of controversy over allegation of disrupting the mass burial of 11 victims killed by armed herdsmen last week in their homes.
Residents alleged that the Council Chairman sabotaged the process, in connivance with higher authority in Makurdi.
The family members of the 11 diseased persons arrived the mortuary for the corpses of their loved ones for burial, but were told that the council chairman came and took the mortician away. The response angered residents of the community, and they threatened to break the lock.
The disruption caused sadness in the people of Mbachoon community, Yaav District of Turan, Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State.
Reverend Ezekiel Dachomo, a crusader against Christian genocide from Plateau State, was on ground, alongside the American Philanthropist, Alex Babir, to witness the ceremony.
The situation become tense as news filtered in that the mortuary attendant has been whisked away, allegedly by the Council Chairman, preventing the families from claiming the corpses of family members.
Rev Dachomo, and Alex Babir, who prevailed on the people to remain calm and trust in God while at the mortuary, said they will watch as God punishes their enemies he prayed round the building seven times.
The community coordinator of the mass burial, Chief Fabian Yaga, expressed dismay over the Council chairman's actions for disrupting the burial ceremony. He decried that over 70 dead bodies are in the mortuary killed by armed herders.
Reverend Dachomo, donated the sum of N250,000 to the families of the diseased. Alex Babir, the American Philanthropist, promised to help the community rebuild 200 houses and drill water bore-hole, while an organization, Equipping the Persecuted, who paid for casket for the burial of the 11 victims, also gave certain amount to the people.
