I will not support capital punishment for hate speech - Akeredolu
Following the recent controversial bill sponsored by one of the National Assembly members over the death sentence for hate speeches offender, the Ondo state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu has disagreed with the proposed bill saying it is an act of wickedness and injustice
Akeredolu who stated this at the University of Ilorin while delivering a lecture at the biennial conference of the centre for peace and strategic studies, university of Ilorin
He frowned at what prompted the sponsor of the bill, adding that, there should be freedom of expression and critics must be allowed to play their role in our democracy
He also noted that, as the governor of Ondo state, he will never sign death warrant to any offender or prisoners but to look at the way of assisting in reducing their jail term.
