Herdsmen/Farmers Crisis: NGF Moves to Adopt Ranching

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has resolved to transit into modern systems of animal husbandry which will replace open, night and underage grazing in the country.

The resolution was made at the just concluded 25th Teleconference meeting chaired by Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, Governors were encouraged to put in place, systems to accelerate the grazing initiative of the National Livestock Transformation Plan and ranching in the country.

The resolution was made in other to address the rising insecurity in the country which has been connected to armed herdsmen operating as bandits.

Governors were also urged to partner with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on the procurement and equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines while government relevant agencies and public-spirited organisations involved in the procurement of vaccines are encouraged to cooperate in ensuring that the injections arrive in the country early.

The communiqué further stated NGF will inaugurate an advisory group of experts to provide high-level strategic guidance and support on the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines in the short time and the subsequent local production of the injections.
