Herdsmen reject provision of open grazing bill in Oyo

Leaders of some herdsmen groups in Oyo state have rejected some provisions of the open rearing and grazing regulation bill being considered by members of the Oyo state house of assembly.

Some leaders of the groups who spoke at a public hearing on the bill held at the house of chiefs in Ibadan charged the present administration not to set aside the committee put in place by the last administration.

The public hearing on open rearing and grazing regulation bill 2019 was organized by the leadership of Oyo state house of assembly to seek inputs from members of the public on the bill.

While some pastoral farmers at the meeting lauded the initiative of the state government and the house of assembly in this regard, some herdsmen under the group of Meyatti Allah cattle breeders and Gan Allah Fulani Development Association of Nigeria in Oyo state faulted some provisions of the bill.

On his part, the special adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on security, Fatai Owoseni while reviewing some portions of the bill called for calm adding that the law if well implemented would ensure peace and harmonious relationship among all groups.

Earlier, the speaker of the assembly, Hon. Debo Ogundoyin and the chairman, house committee on agriculture and rural development, Hon. Peter Ojedoku said the intention of the bill is to ensure peace and bring an end to incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen in the
state.
