Fashola blames uncompleted project on weather

Minister of Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola says failed roads are not peculiar to Nigeria.

Addressing journalists after Wednesday’s federal executive council meeting, the minister attributed the inability of the government to complete road projects across the country to weather conditions that hindered progress on the works.

The meeting ended at four o'clock in the evening and the information minister, Lai Mohammed led the other two ministers to address the media on deliberations that topped the agenda of the meeting.

Minister of Works and housing, first conveyed the council’s approval of a total sum of fifty-four point eight billion Naira for the construction of the Sachi-Bida-Nupeco road project to link Kwara and Niger states.

Minister Fashola said the project was awarded in 2013 but was terminated for non-performance and is re-awarded to link the southwest and the north-central.

He said the project is expected to be completed within thirty months.

The minister also reacted to questions by state house correspondents who asked the minister to justify the weekly approvals and actual work done on road projects, since there are many bad roads across the country.

Fashola, however, blamed weather conditions for delays in the completion of the projects saying bad roads are not peculiar to Nigeria.

He also spoke about the government's plans to ease transportation during the yuletide

Communications minister, Isah Pantami also briefed the council on the success of Nigerians who excelled in the just concluded ICT exhibition in Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

Pantami said two out of ten Nigerians who participated in exhibition won in their different endeavours.

He said the government will support the citizens to excel in their areas of specialization.
