Anticorruption War: ICPC Lament Non Establishment of Aunti-Corruption and Transparency Units by Mdas

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) revealed that 92 MDAs have not established Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) as of the end of 2024.

ICPC Chairman, Aliyu Musa, represented by the director of system and study and review Olusegun Adigun, told the House Committee on Anti-Corruption that only 26 ACTUs are very effective, 58 effective, while 127 are ineffective and five are dormant.

He called for legislation mandating MDAs to dedicate a portion of their annual budgets to ACTU operations, with proper oversight. He also recommended regular training in financial investigations, digital forensics, and ethics.

House Speaker Hon Tajudeen Abbas, represented by Hon Umar Ajilo, stressed that corruption weakens institutions and hinders national growth.

Committee Chair, Hon Kayode Akiolu, noted that while ACTUs are a cost-effective tool across over 400 MDAs, some have underperformed or become compromised. He emphasized the need for genuine institutional commitment to integrity.
