NTA Ibadan Celebrates 55 Years

A former Director General of the Nigeria Television Authority, Engineer Vincent Maduka has called on the Nigerian media to take the lead from foreign media in reporting Nigeria and Africa.

Engineer Maduka said this at the 55th Anniversary symposium of the Nigeria Television Authority NTA today in Ibadan.

 

Engineer Maduka said it is high time media practitioners raised the standard of broadcasting in the country to compete favorably with their counterparts in other climes of the world.

 

Delivering the 55th anniversary symposium lecture of the Nigerian television authority, NTA, with the theme, ‘Broadcasting in Africa; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.’ Engineer Vincent Maduka urged Nigeria media practitioners to raise the bar in reporting the Nigeria stories instead of leaving such for the foreign media to do.

 

Engineer Maduka who was the second indigenous head of the Nigeria Television while tracing the story of broadcasting in Nigeria said contents and political interference in broadcasting process has been on from time but warned that a country who wants the contents of its broadcast medium taken seriously must reduce political interference to the barest minimum.

 

Also in another lecture, the director general of the Nigeria Broadcasting commission, NBC Mr. Emeka Mba spoke on the digitalization drive currently on in the broadcasting sector as well as the challenges being faced. He challenged all media stations in the country to see it as a new development like the switch from black and white television to color television transmission.

 

The director general of the NTA, Mr. Sola Omole, the Oyo state governor, senator Abiola Ajimobi, represented by the state commissioner for information, Prince Gbade Lana; the first face on television in Africa, Mrs. Anike Agbaje Williams, the Managing Director of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo state and other former staff of the NTA also added their voices to the celebration of the 55th year of television in Africa.
