NPA To Modernize Apapa Tin Can Island Ports

The Nigeria Ports Authority, NPA, has revealed the Authority is embarking on a major rejig of its operations, with plans to modernize Apapa, Tin Can Island and other ports, to boost efficiency and global competitiveness, with projects expected to commence in the coming weeks.

The NPA has set a revenue target of N1.489 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, N21 billion higher than the N1.468 trillion target for 2025, from which N1.19 trillion was realised.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, disclosed this while presenting the 2026 budget proposal and 2025 performance before the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours.

Of the proposed figure, N945 billion is for capital projects, N447.5 billion for operating expenses, and N90.6 billion for remittance into the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

The MD said modernization of Apapa and Tin Can Island ports will improve capacity and revenue, adding that construction in Lagos ports will lead to diversion of some vessels to eastern ports.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, described appropriation as vital to national development and assured of continued oversight of port infrastructure and operations.
