Nigerian MSMEs, SMEs’ products not export-ready
The Nigeria Export Promotion Council says the country’s small and medium scale entrepreneurs lack the capacity for export of globally acceptable commodities, hence the need for increased training.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Olusegun Awolowo stated this in Abuja Monday, when he appeared before the Senate Committee on Trade and Investment for the defence of the Budget proposal for 2020.
Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that Mr. Awolowo noted that many of the products manufactured in Nigeria are not export-ready.
In her submissions, Senator Rose Oko, Chairman, Committee on Trade and Investment said the Committee will focus on doing a thorough job in the consideration of the content of the budget proposal to prevent a repetition of proposals year in year out.
On his part, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, a member of the Committee called on the Council to effect measures towards addressing illegal mining activities.
