Alia Reaffirms Commitment To De-Escalating Crisis In Benue
Governor Hyacinth Alia, has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring peaceful coexistence between the people of Benue, other Nigerians, and foreign nationals living within the state.
Governor Alia, represented by the deputy governor, Sam Ode, stated this when the delegation of Germany envoys visited, noting that Benue has not adopted any official religion in line with the provisions of Nigeria's Constitution.
Receiving a delegation from the Federal Republic of Germany, led by the Commissioner for Freedom of Religion and Belief and Member of Parliament, Thomas Rachel, Benue State government highlighted some of the recurring farmers-herders crisis, attributed to years of seasonal migration by pastoralists from other African countries into Nigeria, in search of grazing lands. He described Benue as an agrarian community with over 90 per cent occupation in Agriculture.
He said the state is committed to de-escalating the crisis and protect lives.
Thomas Rachel stated that the purpose of the visit was to strengthen collaboration with the Benue State Government in promoting peace and cooperation.
