Ogun Govt Pays Over 10bn On Pensions And Gratuities

Despite the lingering problem confronting the implementation of the contributory pension scheme in ogun state, the state government has declared that it has paid over ten billion naira as pension and gratuities in 2012.

The Head of Service in the state, Mrs Modupe Adekunle while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta maintained that the Amosun administration inherited a huge liability of unpaid pensions and gratuities from the last administration.

Correspondent kunle ojo reports that the Head of Service stressed that not minding the lingering problem confronting the implementation of the pension scheme, the government had paid ten billion, one hundred and twenty-three million, one hundred and fifteen thousand, eight hundred and three Naira seven kobo as pensions and gratuities to retired workers in the state.

She maintained that additional one thousand, seven hundred and twenty-seven retirees have been enrolled into the pay roll of the state government noting that the present administration would continue to ensure the prompt payment of pension to the senior citizens in the
state to ensure quality of life for them.

To address the problems confronting the scheme, Mrs. Adekunle stated that the state government has forwarded a bill to the State House of Assembly for the full implementation of the contributory pension scheme for the entire workforce with effect from 1st of July, 2015.

 

The Head of Service therefore warned civil servants in the state to steer clear of partisan politics saying any officer that wish to participate in politics should resign as anyone caught would be dismissed summarily.

She assured that the public service in the state would continue to strive to be a reliable partner as well as agent of positive change to the present administration of Ibikunle Amosun in ogun state.
