NIMC Urges Nigerians On National Identity Card
Nigerians have been encouraged to enrol for the new National Identification Number[NIN] because of the multi-purpose benefits they stand to get from the exercise.
The Director General of the National Identity Management Commission[NIMC] Chris Onyemenam gave the charge at a forum held in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
Onyemenam who was represented by the head, Department of Business Development, NIMC Dr. Robert Ottuh said the exercise would ensure that an individual is properly identified.
He explained that the commission has permanent enrolment registration centres across the 36 States of the federation with the aim of capturing the demographic and biometric information of citizens.
He noted that the registration will enable Nigerians to use the card here and abroad to ascertain their identities.
On the commission's progress in Ekiti State, he said they are currently in six out of the 16 local govt areas of the state.
The Director General also spoke on the National E-identity card which according to him would be for multi-purpose uses.
The commission is said to have authentication and verification centre, as no individual can be replicated.
