Youth Declares Supports For Court Order On Pipeline Contract Renewal

The Ethnic Youth Leaders’ Council of Nigeria has declared support for the judgement of the FCT High Court, directing the Federal Government to renew a key pipeline surveillance contract.

The National Coordinator of the group, Meliga Godwin, at a press briefing in Abuja, described the court’s rejection of moves to halt or split the contract as vital to protecting Nigeria’s economic interests and critical oil infrastructure.

He noted that prior to the intervention, crude oil theft had crippled production, cutting output to about 900,000 barrels per day and costing the country billions of dollars annually.

Godwin said improved pipeline surveillance has since curbed losses and boosted production close to two million barrels per day, strengthening revenue and stabilising the Niger Delta.

The National Coordinator urged the Federal Government to act swiftly on the renewal, warning that any attempt to fragment the contract could reverse the gains recorded.

He also called for national recognition for the firm’s leadership, citing their role in improving security, creating jobs, and supporting economic recovery.

The Council reaffirmed support for policies that drive growth and urged stakeholders to prioritise national interest.
