Troops of the Operation HADIN KAI have foiled a coordinated terrorist attack on a military formation in Benisheikh, Borno State, in the early hours of Thursday.

The attempted assault targeted the Brigade Headquarters of the 29 Task Force Brigade at about 12:30a.m. It was repelled by troops who engaged the insurgents with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat.

Director of Defence Media Operations, Michael Onoja, in a statement, indicated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria disclosed that the troops led by Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, demonstrated courage and professionalism in defending the facility.

The military described the attack as a reflection of the desperation of terrorist elements following sustained losses in recent operations across the North East.

The military, however, suffered casualties, some soldiers were killed during the encounter. The Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen heroes, commending their sacrifice and dedication to national security.

The Armed Forces urged the public and media to allow proper notification of next of kin before the release of further details, while cautioning against the spread of unverified information.

Meanwhile, clearance operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent them from regrouping, as the military reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region.
