Terrorists Incursion Into Lagos? Police Confirm IED Detonated At Mushin Market
There apprehension over the probability of terrorists' incursion into Lagos after a perceived Improvised Explosive Device, IED, detonated at a Market in Mushin.
However, the Commissioner of Police of the Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, urgently led a team to the scene of the explosion. The CP encouraged residents of the state not to panic, saying the state is safe.
Tijani deployed the EOD team to conduct comprehensive scanning of the scene of explosion at the Shoe Materials Market in Mushin, Lagos State.
CP Tijani said the Command immediately deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, operatives to cordon off and secure the scene, as soon as the police received information about an explosion.
According to CP Tijani, “We promptly deployed our EOD team after receiving reports of an explosion. The area was cordoned off and thoroughly searched.”
The Commissioner said that preliminary findings revealed that the explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device planted under a vehicle. He noted that the device was planted beneath the passenger seat of the vehicle; and detonated as the engine was switched on.
According to the CP, “The IED was under the vehicle by the passenger side. It exploded when the vehicle was started.”
The CP said that one person sustained injuries in the explosion and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, but in a stable condition.
The commissioner further said that no additional explosive devices were detected at the scene after a detailed scanning by the EOD experts.
The Police reassured of the safety of residents in the state.
