League to end on Sept 3

The Nigerian Premier League has been scheduled by the League Management Company to end on September 3.

An earlier set of fixtures had put the end of the season at July, but most clubs have complained of congested fixtures forcing the LMC to readjust the original schedule, according to scorenigeeria.com on Tuesday.

There will still be midweek matches, but they are now more fairly spread out unlike in the first round of the championship when they came thick and fast. The second round of the season resumes on Sunday across the country. Plateau United lead the standings on 35 points after 19 matches. Enugu Rangers are the defending champions.

The champions and runners-up will represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League, while the third-placed club features in the CAF Confederation Cup.
