The United States Consular General to Nigeria, Jeffrey Hawkins says the activities of the Islamic Sect may mar the conduct of the 2015 general elections in Nigeria if not proper checked.

Hawkins, who stated this at an interactive session with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, condemned the recent killing of innocent children in Yobe State by the Boko Haram.

The U.S Consular General lauded the federal govt's efforts in deploying the military to engage the Sect, adding that the war against terrorism is a must-win for Nigeria in ensuring security of lives and property.

He said the U.S govt has listed Boko Haram as a terrorist group and is not folding its arms on the matter.
           
On the 2015 election, Hawkins said the U.S govt had given in form of aid $15million to Nigerian govt to strengthen the electoral process.

He expressed optimism that the 2015 elections will mark the watershed of credible election in Nigeria, if the politicians can shun violence and ensure responsible behaviour from participant.

He urged the Prof. Attahiru Jega-led INEC to be thorough with Ekiti and Osun states guber polls, as it will be critical to the success of the 2015.
           
Also speaking, the USAID country director, Michael Harvey stressed the roles of the media in ensuring credible election in Nigeria.
