PDP At Crossroads, Caretaker Committee Appoints Ikpeazu Chairman Of Convention Committee
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continues to be crossroads of mix-up and seemingly intractable internal rivalries in the buildup to 2027 General Elections.
Apparently, the PDP Caretaker Committee, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Wike Nyesom, F|CT Minister, appointed Ambassador Okezie Ikpeazu, Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee of the faction’s national convention.
The faction inaugurated the 2026 National Convention Planning and Organizing Committee for the election of party leadership. The arrangement will displace the PDP National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where Kabiru Tanimu Turaki was elected national chairman. However, this still subject to litigation.
Meanwhile, the factional PDP caretaker committee, inaugurating the convention committee, stated that it is a crucial step toward rebuilding the party and setting the stage for credible leadership.
National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, said the inauguration came at a critical time following months of internal crises and legal battles. He noted that recent judicial developments provide an opportunity for the party to refocus on unity and institutional stability.
The factional chairman enjoined the committee to deliver a convention that is lawful, inclusive, and transparent, capable of producing credible leaders for the next four years, while urging aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation and work collectively in the party’s interest.
On behalf of the National Assembly Caucus, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan called on party members across all factions to close ranks, return to the fold, and support efforts aimed at repositioning the PDP as a strong political force.
.Ikpeazu, former Governor of Abia State, and political ally of Wike, described his committee chair appointment as a defining moment, acknowledging the party’s recent internal divisions and legal challenges; but expressing confidence in its recovery following renewed legal clarity.
Ikpeazu assured of a transparent and credible convention process, stressing that unity, fairness, and reconciliation are critical to restoring confidence. He urged stakeholders to support the process and reposition the PDP for success in the 2027 general elections.
