Gas Explosion Wreck Havoc In Akure, Ondo State
A high degree gas explosion that happened at an unauthorized gas station on arakale road in Akure, the Ondo State capital has caused an unbelievable havoc. Not fewer than 45 people was reported to have sustain serious burnt injuries that have been rushed to the state specialists hospital in Akure and the trauma center in ondo town.
The explosion also ravaged all surrounding lock up shops and residential buildings thereby destroying goods and properties worth of hundreds of millions of naira. This incident could have been averted if Nigeria is a place where rules and regulations are abide by, because it is a known fact that petrol and gas stations are not expected to be sited in populated and residential areas.
Information has it that the establishment of the gas station was never approved by the Ondo state ministry of lands, housing and urban development and the ministry have served the gas station a contravention notice calling for the removal of the gas turbine but which was never adhere to by the company with the name Crustal Water Exploration Services Nigeria Limited.
Lastnight when our correspondent visited the scene of the explosion, the people standing by are furious and hostile because of the inability of the fire brigade in Akure to rise up to the occasion because help did not come until hours later when fire has razed life investment of some people.
The nigeria emergency management authority, NEMA confirmed that no record of death and that NEMA personnel are doing everything to control the situation.
The regent of Akure land, princess Adetutu Adesida who came out to see the level of destruction told the Commissioner for Lands, housing and urban development, Bade Omoloja that something must be done to stop indiscriminate establishment of gas outlets in Akure.
Meanwhile, the Ondo state government has announced the immediate closure of all gas station outlets across the state with the directive that such operators should apply or reapply for approval.
The issue now is what will be the plight of the people that lost almost everything they have to the explosion, will government come to their aid considering the economic melt down that is presently being experiencing across the Nation.
