FG orders 800 thousand vaccines for meningitis
The Federal government is expecting above eight hundred thousand special vaccines to combat the deadly meningitis ravaging parts of the country.
Minister of state for health, Osagie Enahire disclosed this at the end of Wednesday’s Federal executive council meeting presided over by Vice president Osinbajo.
In spite government's effort to bring under control, effects of the ‘’type c’’ meningitis, the disease is still waxing stronger in zamfara and sokoto states.
Although meningitis is gradually being curtailed in the affected states, government officials say more is being done to totally eradicate the scourge.
Addressing state house correspondent, Osagie Enahire said government is ordering additional vaccines to tame the spread of the killer disease.
He said although more victims are vaccinated daily, more vaccines are due in the country by the weekend for the treatment of new cases.
According to the Minister, the medical team battling the disease in Zamfara state will also move to Sokoto state in the next two days to cater for victims there.
The council also approved ratification of the 2013 minamata convention on the prevention of the use of mercury in the country.
