Court Slams N21m Fine Against Jideobi, Declares Jonathan Eligible For 2027 Presidential Election

Court Slams N21m Fine Against Jideobi, Declares Jonathan Eligible For 2027 Presidential Election

The Federal High Court in Abuja, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan is eligible to contest in the 2027 general elections.

The presiding Judge, Justice Peter Lifu, delivering judgment in a suit seeking to bar Jonathan from participating in future presidential election, having taken the oath of office twice as president, by Johnmary Jideobi, slammed N21 million fine against the plaintiff.

Justice Lifu, in his judgment, dismissed the suit on grounds of being an abuse of court process.

According to Lifu, the suit was a waste of the court's precious time because both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal have already resolved the eligibility of Jonathan.

The Judge further awarded a cost of N20 million against the plaintiff in favour of Jonathan and N1 million in favour of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Counsel to the First Defendant, Chris Uche, SAN, lauded the judgement of the court.

Also, a member of the House of Representatives, Agbedi Frederick, representing Sagbama/Ekremo Federal Constituency, declared the readiness to support the candidature of Former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2027.
