APC Prepares For Defection Of Gov Bala Mohammed In Bauchi
The Bauchi State Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has moved to manage internal divisions over the possible defection of Governor Bala Mohammed from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The party started preparations to receive the Bauchi Governor by setting up a high-powered committee to harmonise positions and engage the APC national leadership.
The decision followed a caucus meeting in Abuja where members expressed sharply differing views on the political and structural implications of admitting the governor into the party, highlighting cracks within the state chapter.
Acting Secretary of the caucus, Hon. Dabo Ismail, said the committee is mandated to articulate and present the caucus’ demands and conditions to the national leadership in the event of any defection into the APC.
He added that the committee would also engage critical stakeholders to ensure a smooth and inclusive negotiation process, represent the caucus in all related discussions, and provide periodic updates to members.
Speaking after the meeting, the senator, representing Bauchi North Senatorial District, Chairman of the caucus, Sama’ila Dahuwa, expressed dissatisfaction over what he described as a lack of prior consultation by the party’s national leadership.
He warned that sidelining state stakeholders undermines internal democracy, inclusiveness, and respect for established party structures, stressing that imposing decisions without broad-based engagement is unacceptable.
The caucus also resolved to formally communicate its position and grievances to the party’s national leadership, insisting on strict adherence to due process and internal consultation.
Governor Mohammed had, on March 31, 2026, disclosed plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, amid ongoing political realignments in the buildup to the 20278 general elections.
His move drew further attention following a recent visit by APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State to the Bauchi Government House for a closed-door meeting.
