Several interests, including the African Democratic Congress, ADC, interrogate the authenticity of the commendation letter President Donald Trump wrote to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as indicated in a statement by the Nigerian Presidency on Wednesday evening.

The Nigerian Presidency on Wednesday, July 22, issued a statement that "US President Donald Trump of the United States U.S., has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive leadership “on behalf of the Nigerian people”.

In a letter to President Tinubu, according to the Presidency, "President Trump applauded Tinubu’s resolve “to tackle the issues plaguing Nigeria, especially, the violence affecting Christian communities.”

“It is a true honour to stand with you in the fight against these terrorists and to make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” the statement cited Trump to have said.

However, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Lauretta Onochie, doubted the genuineness of the letter. According Lauretta, former Senior Special Assistant on New Media to late President Muhammadu Buhari, "there Is No Letter Of Commendation From Trump."

She alleged: "Now, they have recycled an old letter from Pres. @realDonaldTrump written 2 years ago.

"There's no letter of commendation from Trump in 2026.
"The letter they are referencing was written in response to Tinubu’s congratulatory message to Trump in late 2024/early 2025.

Lauretta Onochie further declared: "Dear Nigerians, Please tell Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his... to publish that letter from 2024/2025 and the "new one" dated 6th July."
She maintained: "Nigerians are not fooled in any way. We know the truth.
"We dare them to release both letters..."

Beyond the shores of Nigeria, a US Firm was cited to have exposed Donald Trump’s “Thank You” Letter to President Tinubu.

The firm was cited to have encouraged the Nigerian Government to release the original letter with the White House seal and end the debate.

The firm was said to have insisted on the release of the actual letter.
