NASU, SSANU Leaders Insist On Strike Until Demands Are Met
Leaders of the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, have insisted that the ongoing strike will continue until the demands of the workers are met by the government.
Chairman of the Non-Academic Staff Union, University of Ibadan branch, Comrade Ogunlade Oluwafemi-Michael, lamented the stalled 2009 agreement renegotiation, government’s non-challant attitude to their welfare, withheld salaries and perceived preferential treatment against their members.
He warned that mere assurances were not enough to call off the ongoing strike, insisting that they would not return to work until their demands were met.
Visitors and students who were going to Nigeria’s Premier University, University of Ibadan, were denied access to the tertiary institution as members of the Non Academic Staff Union and the Senior Staff Union of universities barricaded the main entrance of the school due to an ongoing industrial dispute which its leadership said will continue until government accedes to its demand.
