Military Deploy Air, Land Forces To Rescue Kidnapped School Children, Teachers In Oyo

The military have reviewed approach to search and rescue operations in kidnap incidence.

the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered the deployment of combine advanced air surveillance technology with ground troops for rescue operations to save kidnapped school children, teachers, and others in Oyo State

The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja, at a media briefing at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, confirmed the deployment of special forces and advanced aerial surveillance assets to Oyo State on rescue operations in response to the May 15 kidnap of 39 students and 7 teachers from the Ahoro Esinele Community in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State. The bandits, in an appalling video, celebrated the beheading of one of the kidnapped teachers, Michael Oyedokun.

Media Director asserted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria considered the incident a serious threat to national security and the safety of citizens.

The DHQ had identified the bandits as members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, JAS, a Boko Haram faction, believed to migrate from North East Nigeria.
