UNICEF Donates PSA Medical Oxygen Plant To Oyo Govt
As part of efforts towards saving lives, combat acute respiratory diseases such as pneumonia, hypoxemia and others among residents of Oyo State, The United Nation's Children's Fund has donated a solarized PSA Medical Oxygen plant and level 2 new born unit to the Oyo State government.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Jericho Specialist Hospital, Ibadan, UNICEF Representative, Cristian Munduate said the Oxygen plant is a beacon of innovation and resilience, poised to save countless lives and provide a model for similar initiatives across the country.
She added that the installation of the solarized medical oxygen plant is a groundbreaking achievement as Oxygen is a critical life-saving intervention, particularly for newborns and children suffering from pneumonia and other respiratory illnesses.
She further said the launch of the Oyo State Strategy for the Scale-Up of Medical Oxygen in Health Facilities is a comprehensive roadmap designed to ensure that every health facility in the state is equipped with the necessary resources to provide medical oxygen.
In his response, Oyo state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde said beyond infrastructures, he would like to be remembered for putting in place stronger institutions following the Launch of the Oyo State Strategy for the Scale up of Medical Oxygen in Health Facilities 2024 - 2028.
He said his administration has prioritized the health sector by increasing the budget to 10% as against what was obtainable before now.
The governor added that the PSA Oxygen plant will further help to improve maternal and child health in Oyo State and across Nigeria.
Highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Oyo State Strategy for the Scale-Up of Medical Oxygen in Health Facilities between 2024 -2028.
