Tragedy struck when a trailer conveying petrol lost control and crashed into a crowd in Ibadan, Oyo State.

An unspecified number of persons lost their lives while scores sustained varying degrees of injuries in the petrol tanker accident.

The sad accident occurred at the popular Beere-Ojee Road, a ever busy crowded route, mostly inhabited by traders, artisans and commuters.

According to eyewitness account, the sad accident occurred about an hour after officials of the Oyo State Enforcement Team besieged the facility to enforce its "no street trading" policy.

Similarly, Assistant Superintendent at the Oyo State Fire Service, Muftau Amao, lamented the spate of illegal street trading, which he noted was inimical to the wellbeing of residents. He called for stricter measures to forestall a recurrence of the tragedy.
