Tinubu Signs Amended Student Loan 2024 Bill into Law

Following some amendments to the Student Loans Access to Higher Education Bill, President Bola Tinubu has signed it into law.

The Presidential assent is sequel to separate considerations by both chambers of the National Assembly of the report of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund.

Recall that the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, generated some controversies regarding its implementation, a development that prompted its review by the National Assembly recently.

The new Act represents one of Tinubu's flagship policies to boost the prospects of youths acquiring tertiary education in the country.
Appending his signature as President, Tinubu said, the Act will improve education as the tool to fight against poverty effectively.
He said his administration is determined to ensure that education is given the proper attention necessary for the country including skills development programmes.

The president explained that the Act is to ensure that no one, no matter how poor their background is, is excluded from quality education and opportunity to build their future.
