Seven Benue IDPs Hacked To Death by Suspected Herders’ In Camp

Suspected armed herdsmen have attacked the Internally Displaced person camp in Abagana, killing seven IDPs and left several others injured.

Abagana IDP camp is one of the camps in the Makurdi local government area of Benue State, housing thousands of refugees displaced from their homes by armed herders in the wake of 2018.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who visited the camp this early morning, has called on President Mohammadu Buhari, to live up to his responsibility of protecting Nigerians, describing the attack as inhuman, barbaric and unacceptable.

The Governor also met with angry youth who protested and blocked the Makurdi -Lafia road with the dead bodies this morning, called on them to remain calm. He however called for urgent action against activities of militia herdsmen across the country, saying if the government had taken the issue of militia herdsmen seriously it wouldn't have escalated to this level.

Gov Ortom's lamented that in the last two weeks, over seventy persons had been killed in Makurdi Local Government alone while various communities across Benue suffering the same attacks.
