Senate Urges Buhari to Declare State of Emergency on Insecurity

The Nigerian Senate has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a state of emergency on insecurity.

This is coming against the backdrop of the kidnap by suspected bandits of school children in Niger State on Wednesday.

This resolution of the Senate at plenary on Wednesday is a sequel to a motion under matter of urgent public importance coming barely hours after the abduction of teachers and students of Government Science School Kagara who are still unaccounted for.

Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that the highlight of Senate deliberation, however, is that by Niger South Senator, Muhammad Enagi who described the Buhari-led Nigerian government as incompetent.

On their parts, other Niger State senators and the Senate President gave their take on the state of insecurity in the country and the need to address the situation forthwith.

The Senate also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the recommendations of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee on Nigeria’s security challenges dated March 17, 2020.
