Reps summon service chiefs for traffic violations
House of Representatives has summoned the chief of defense staff and other service chiefs including the Inspector General of police over traffic violations.
The House called on the chiefs to call its personnel to order over their alleged blatant disregard for traffic laws.
These military personal and their police counterparts are allegedly notorious for breaking traffic laws the illegal use of one way thereby causing accidents in most cases and sometimes resorting to using whips on other road users while committing these infractions.
The motion was sponsored by Hon Enitan Badru, from Lagos state who claimed to have observed that these personnel beat up traffic enforcement officers who dared to stop them.
While condemning these actions of the military personnel in its entire entirety, other lawmakers insist that punitive measures should apply to the offence to deter offenders.
They also observed that blaring of sirens unnecessary which is characteristics of these act should also be outlawed.
The house however amended the motion to include the police and other security agencies as it adopted the motion by a majority voice vote.
