The National Orientation Agency has been advised to lead a campaign that will equip potential victims of rape and dissuade intending rapists in Nigeria.

Executive Director, Choice Solution Welfare Initiative International, Dr. Kemi Ademola-Aremu who made the call while speaking on 'building resilience of potential victims of rape and drug addicts in Nigeria' at the University of Ibadan decried the rate of rape and drug abuse in the country.

According to her, without the necessary resilience skill inculcated in potential victims, the menace of rape may become a normalized behaviour.

Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that Dr. Aremu linked the increasing rate of suicide in the country, especially among the youth to drug abuse and emotional torture experienced by victims of rape stressing that adequate measure must be in place to reverse the trend.

Dr. Aremu and Raymond Ajagbe blamed the government for lack of political will in prosecuting perpetrators of rape adding that stakeholders should continue to speak against rape and other forms of anti-social behaviours.

They lauded the initiative of some state governments that have legislated against rape and other forms of anti-social behaviours adding that apathy on the part of others that are yet to comply.
