President Gifts D’Tigress $100,000 For Winning Afrobasket ball Tournament

President Bola Tinubu has announced a cash reward of $100,000 to each of the National Basketball team, D'Tigress who represented Nigeria at the just concluded 2025 women Afrobasket tournament in Cote de voire
Each of the coaching crews also received 50,000 US dollars each for their efforts.
Represented by the Vice president,KashimShetima , the president also announced the conferment of national honours of Officer of the Order of the Niger OON on the players and their officials .
While treating the team and their coaching crews to a presidential reception at the Aso rock villa, president Tinubu said the victory of the team is a triumph of courage, determination, discipline and consistency and they have indeed demonstrated the ability of women to achieve the greatest heights if given the enabling environment and support.
The first lady , senator Oluremi Tinubu said With this win, the team have showcased once again, the unwavering commitment and determination of Nigerian women on the global stage.
She maintained that the girls have continued to inspire every young girl to dream of breaking barriers and making history through hard work and dedication.
The captain of the team,Amy Okonkwo appreciated the unwavering commitment of the present administration to sports development in the country with the assurance that the team is poised to achieve greater feats on the global stage going forward.
Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, were crowned champions of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket after defeating Mali in the final.
The Rena Wakama-led side clinched the title on Sunday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
With the win, Nigeria made history as the first country to win five consecutive Women’s Afrobasket championships, further cementing their dominance on the continent.END
