The  Office of the Inspector General of Police  has taken legal action against two individuals, Adebayo Aliu and Fatuntele Lukmon Tunde, for allegedly creating a fraudulent online platform to spread false scandals about an online banker, moniepoint.

The duo are accused of promising ₦500,000 to individuals who would comment with the phrase "Moniepoint Scandal" and share fabricated experiences about the bank.

The Inspector-General of Police filed a seven-count charge against them, citing violations of Nigeria's Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015 (as amended in 2024). The charges include cyberstalking, impersonation of a social media influencer, and causing a breakdown of law and order.

The case is centered on an alleged coordinated online campaign targeting Moniepoint Microfinance Bank. The defendants were expected to be arraigned before a Federal High Court, Abuja, but the arraignment was shifted to April 27 due to their absence.

The media relations manager of moniepoint, Bemigho Awala,  said the organisation is troubled about malicious campaign and have handed the legal action to the police for necessary actions.
