Passengers Demand Safety Measures On Railways

Passengers have demanded the federal government to take actions that will ensure safety on Nigeria's railways. The passengers expressed perturbation over recurring derailing of train,  after the  Monday morning derailment of a Kaduna-Abuja bound train, which left 22 persons injured.

Passengers protested they want answers after another avoidable accident on the Kaduna-Abuja train corridor. They argued that it  was not the first time this was happening, adding that it is getting to a point where a solution is required.

The Kaduna-Abuja bound train encountered a sudden jolt, causing passengers to be thrown from their seats and resulting in injuries. According to eyewitnesses, the incident was caused by a backup locomotive that was coupled to the main train, which hit the power car and, subsequently, crashed into a passenger coach.

Passengers are agitating that it is not just about one incident, it's about a pattern of neglect and lack of accountability. They want the authorities to take responsibility and ensure  safety on the rail lines.

Meanwhile, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa, has assured Nigerians that the rail line is safe.

He said that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the Monday accident.
