Ogun Police seeks support

For effective policing, the Ogun state police command is seeking more collaboration to complement its efforts in combating crimes in the state; with claim that it cannot do the security affairs alone without the support of members of the public and relevant stakeholders.

In a bid to ensure the security of citizens in the state, the executives and members of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Ogun state, South-West, Nigeria, have been challenged not to allow criminals or people with criminal intents to infiltrate Ogun metropolis.

The Police area commander in charge of the Abeokuta area command, ACP Okon Effiong Okon, who represented the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu at a one-day human capacity development seminar organised for PCRC divisional executives in Abeokuta metro Command, said PCRC's role in providing support to the police is highly sensitive, hence, the body must constantly ensure people of good character are inducted as members. He added that community policing initiative would only succeed, if PCRC carries out proper background checks on intending members to avoid registering criminals.
