Obasanjo wades into military land dispute

Former president of Nigeria, General Olusegun Obasanjo has appealed to the traditional ruler of Uvwie kingdom in Delta state HRM Sideso the first, not to take a hard stand regarding the land dispute between the community and the Nigerian Army.


 

He made the appeal during his visit to the palace of the monarch at Effurun in Uvwie local government area of the state.

The former president who was welcomed to the palace with traditional dancers from Uvwie kingdom, received royal blessings before appealing to the monarch.

Speaking further, he commended the monarch for his humility and commitment for peace, as the monarch who responded through a palace chief expressed joy over the visit.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Army and the community have been on an age long land dispute housing the three battalion, while the intervention of the former president may reduce the tension.

Present at the visit were the acting governor of the state Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, speaker of the state house of assembly as well as palace chiefs.
