Nigeria Ranks 142 of 182 On Global Corruption, 33 in Africa
The recent global report on corruption indicated that Nigeria ranks 142nd of 182 countries in Transparency International’s 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index, CPI, retaining its score of 26 from 2024.
The CPI measures perceived public sector corruption on a scale from 0, highly corrupt, to 100, very clean. The findings show that little progress has been made in tackling corruption in the country. Nigeria slipped two places from previous 140th position last year.
Nigeria's score remained far below the global average of 43, which fell slightly to 42 in 2025, with over two-thirds of nations scoring below 50.
In Africa, Nigeria ranks behind 33 other countries, including Seychelles (68), Cabo Verde (62), Botswana (58), and Rwanda (58). Other African nations ahead of Nigeria include Mauritius, Namibia, Senegal, Ghana, South Africa, Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya, and Egypt.
