NASS to Amend Constitution to Favour Local Govt

National Assembly has begun the constitution reviewing to address national security, economy, finances and local government autonomy for full delivery of democratic governance in Nigeria.

Speaker of House of representative, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this at the General Assembly of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria which held in Abuja.

Gbajabiamila stated that Local government administration has been hampered structurally in the country adding that as the most important tiers of government, the 9th assembly will endeavour to fix its autonomy once and for all time.

Speaking earlier, ALGON President,  Honorable Kolade Alabi said that 5-year strategic Framework for Development (2021 - 2025) has been set to guide the association's desired interventions.

Kolade stated that the association greatest challenge so far has been that of arbitrary suspension or removal of democratically duly elected Local Government Administration.

The President, therefore, prayed to all Arms of government to give Local government its complete autonomy,  uniform tenure of 4years,  state policing to make community police more effective,  review of 1999 constitution as related to local government among others.
