Money For Bills Allegation: Reps Ask Hon Auyo To Substantiate Claims

The House of Representatives has challenged Hon Ibrahim Usman Auyo (APC, Jigawa) to substantiate claims that members receive payments to sponsor motions, bills, and petitions.
In a viral video, Auyo alleged that such legislative work involved financial inducements.
In a statement, House Spokesman, Hon Akin Rotimi described the allegations as baseless and warned they could erode public trust in the National Assembly if not clarified.
He said the House operates under transparent constitutional and parliamentary procedures, adding that in the last two years, it had introduced 2,263 bills, passed 237, and moved over 1,100 motions, triggering interventions across education, health, infrastructure, security, and economic development.
Rotimi disclosed that Auyo would be invited to present evidence when the House reconvenes. Failure to do so, he said, would see the matter referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
The spokesman reaffirmed the House’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and mutual respect among members.
