The Ogun police command said it had arrested a 25-year-old man, Wasiu Bankole for forcefully having carnal knowledge of a 70-year- old woman (name withheld).

According to a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi,  the suspect was arrested on June 3.

Oyeyemi said that the suspect was arrested following a report by the victim who reported at Agbado division.

He stated that the victim said while she was sleeping in her house on June 2 at Abule-Lemode area of Ijoko at about 8 pm, the suspect suddenly broke into her room, held her down and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her against her consent. 

According to Oyeyemi, the victim has been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson,  has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and diligent prosecution.
